Ford Recalls 775,000 SUVs for Steering Issue Linked to Six Injuries

Ford Motor Co announced on Friday that it recalled approximately 775,000 Ford Explorer SUVs not only nationally but worldwide. The recall came into effect as a steering issue linked to reports of six injuries that came to light in North America.

This specific recall covers vehicle models from 2013-2017 that may experience a seized cross-axis ball joint that could cause a fractured rear-suspension toe link. These things individually, but more so on the whole, can significantly diminish steering control, increasing the risk of a crash.

Recall In Numbers

  • North America: 676,152 vehicles
  • China: 38,600 vehicles

The remaining 38,600 vehicles are being recalled in various other locations. The U.S. vehicles are in high-rust states.

Owner Verification

The process of owner verification will begin in late August. To contact the correct and appropriate vehicle owners, dealers will inspect cross-axis joints and replace them if needed, and they will also replace the toe links with a revised part.

More Recalls

On Friday, Ford issues two other small recalls, mainly in North America. These are a recall of around 35,000 2020-2021 Ford F-350 Super Duty Vehicles with 6.7-liter engines and a single rear wheel axle for a rear-axle housing spring seat interface weld issue.

Additionally, Ford is recalling 41,000 2020-2021 Lincoln Aviator vehicles equipped with 3.0-liter gas engines after uncovering that the battery cable-wire harness may not be properly secured.

In this case, the issue could result in a short circuit and potential fire. At this time, Ford is not reporting any accidents, injuries, or fires related to the two smaller recalls.
