Western Heritage Museum

Hobbs is home to the Western Heritage Museum and Lea County Cowboy Hall of Fame. Located on the Campus of New Mexico Junior College, the museum’s motto is “Where oil, water, and cowboys DO mix!”

The museum aims to be the leader in preserving artifacts and ranching heritage of Southeast New Mexico and West Texas.

From June 9th through October 15th of 2023, the museum is featuring “Chocolate: The Exhibition.” It is a traveling multimedia exhibition that traces the evolution of chocolate and allows visitors to learn the biology around chocolate while standing under a life-sized cocoa tree.

Southwest Symphony of Hobbs

A prominent cultural resource for Southeastern New Mexico, Southwest Symphony of Hobbs has been bringing classical music to the area since 1983.

Southwest Symphony of Hobbs strives to bring music to the performance stage and to students. Each season the orchestra offers a variety of classical and pop concerts to the general public.

Things to Do

Golfing

If you are an avid golfer, you will want to visit Rockwind Community Links. Rockwind is a 27-hole golf facility that offers the citizens of Hobbs a chance to play a championship 18-hole course and a 9-hole par-3 course.

The facility is breathtaking. Golfers are given the opportunity to play on an award-winning amenity that is unlike any other in the country. Additional features include multiple trailheads, picnic spaces, outdoor seating areas, and a five-acre lake.

Aviation

The Hobbs Soaring Society offers exciting flying opportunities. The club is made up of a crew of glider pilots and offers events throughout the entire year.

Let your soaring enthusiast out! The Hobbs Soaring Society usually offers flying lessons from April through October. Whether you have no experience, a lot, or anywhere in between, our certified flight instructor is happy to work with you.

The Hobb Soaring Society is different from other aviation clubs since we launch from the ground. We do so by utilizing a long wire (about 2,400 ft.) to pull an aircraft up with a pickup.

It’s just like flying a kite… well, sort of. This method lends itself to a 1,000-to-1,400-foot release height.

Baseball

Hobbs, New Mexico, has sunny weather on a regular basis, allowing sports buffs to play baseball year-round. Each spring, travelers make the journey to Hobbs to watch the King of the Turf Tournament.

The King of the Turf is one of our most talked about tournaments. The tournament is open to ages 7-14, featuring seven tournament divisions. The entry fee is $525, with a $132 gate fee.

Personal Injury Claims in Hobbs, NM

Even if you are participating in what seems like a safe event, accidents do happen. If your accident is due to another’s carelessness, you may be entitled to recover compensation for your injuries.

Assumption of Risk

Some activities pose more of a risk to participate in than others. Whether you are golfing or taking flying lessons, you are assuming a certain level of risk. In personal injury, this is known as the assumption of risk.

While you don’t expect a cellist’s bow to ricochet from the stage and hit you during a concert, you can reasonably expect a golf ball to hit you in the head on a golf course. That’s because a certain level of risk is assumed when you take on activities that pose a danger to your safety.

If you are hurt participating in an activity, the party you are suing may invoke the assumption of risk as a defense. In using this defense, the defendant is testifying that you proceeded with an activity while knowing the inherent dangers it presented. Due to this, the defendant believes that liability should be waived.

For instance, if you are hit in the head with a golf ball while golfing, it may be difficult to receive compensation for your injuries. That is because there is an inherent risk of getting hit with an errant tee shot when playing golf.

When participating in sports events, don’t sign anything that releases the venue from liability. If you are asked to sign such a form, be aware that you will be releasing the company from liability should you suffer injuries.

It is important to seek medical treatment immediately following an injury and to contact a personal injury lawyer to represent your interests.

Compensatory Damages

When anyone suffers a personal injury, the negligent party is responsible for paying for any losses or injuries the victim suffered.

A personal injury attorney will be able to calculate these losses, known as damages. Damages are designed to make a victim “whole” again. Compensatory damages will reimburse you for both economic and non-economic damages.

Economic damages are any losses that have a specific value that can be easily calculated. These may include:

  • Lost wages
  • Loss of earning capacity
  • Cost of ambulance transportation
  • Long-term care
  • Rehabilitative therapies

Non-economic damages, on the other hand, are intangible losses that negatively impact your life but do not take money out of your pocket. These may include:

  • Pain and suffering
  • Mental anguish
  • Negligent infliction of emotional distress (NIED)
  • Disfigurement
  • Loss of companionship, love, and support
