Leslie Ann Cortez was born and raised in Laredo, Texas. She graduated from Texas A&M International University with a bachelor’s degree in Political Science with a minor in Biology. Leslie moved to San Antonio to attend St. Mary’s University School of Law. While in law school, Leslie interned at the Bexar County District Attorney’s Office in the Family Violence Division.

After passing the bar exam, Leslie began working at the District Attorney’s Office as a misdemeanor prosecutor. After working with misdemeanors for a little over year, Leslie was promoted to handling felony cases. Leslie was a felony prosecutor in the Family Violence Division with specialized responsibility of handling cases involving domestic violence, sex crimes and crimes against children. Along with her partner, Leslie tried complex cases such as Injury to Child (by starvation), Sexual Assault, Continuous Sexual Abuse of a Child, Aggravated Sexual Assault, and Murder to verdict and received guilty verdicts on each.

While working at the District Attorney’s office, Leslie was one of 32 attorneys across the state of Texas selected to attend the 2019 TDCAA Advanced Trial Skills Course. Leslie was also one of 20 attorneys across the state of Texas to be selected to be part of the 2020-2021 Class of LeadershipSBOT, a leadership program with the State Bar of Texas.

Leslie is currently an active member of the State Bar of Texas and an advisory member of the Texas Lawyers’ Assistance Program.

In her free time, Leslie enjoys going to concerts, running, and spending time with her friends, family and two weenie dogs.
