Motorcyclist killed in hit-and-run crash involving semi near west Tarzan

MARTIN COUNTY, TX — A 59-year-old San Antonio man died Monday afternoon after his motorcycle was hit by a tractor-trailer near west Tarzan, reports Your Basin.

The fatal crash happened in the area of State Highway 176 and County Road 2601 on June 6 at about 1:10 p.m.

According to the Department of Public Safety, a Freightliner truck tractor with an attached trailer was turning north onto CR-2601 when it struck the back of the motorcyclist.

Officials said the rider died as a result of his injuries. It was unclear whether he had been taken to a hospital.

The driver of the semi was found to have fled the scene, failing to stop and render aid to the victim. He has since been found and identified as a 28-year-old Odessa man.

DPS said the truck driver was taken into custody and booked into the Martin County Jail. He faces a charge of “Felony Accident Involving a Personal Injury or Death.”
