18-wheeler struck by train off Industrial Ave in Midland

MIDLAND, TX — An 18-wheeler was hit by a Union Pacific train Tuesday morning near Midland’s Nickel Center neighborhood, reports CBS7.

The crash occurred in the area of Industrial Avenue and Warehouse Road. It was first reported by CBS7 at 8:34 a.m.

Details are limited at this time, but City of Midland officials said a semi-truck with an attached trailer got stuck on railway tracks. The driver of the semi was able to exit the vehicle safely before the collision.

No injuries have been reported in the incident.

Authorities closed the impacted railroad crossing and the surrounding roads during the response and investigation.

No further updates have been shared at this time.

A spokesperson with the Odessa District of the Texas Department of Transportation used the opportunity to provide a tip to the public. Drivers in similar situations are strongly advised to run away from their vehicle and the oncoming train at a 45-degree angle, in the direction the train is coming from. Running in the direction that the train is heading could result in victims being hit by vehicle debris.
